Ascension provides quality athletic insurance to colleges and universities nationwide. Our expert staff has been serving institutions of higher education all over the United States for more than 40 years.
We’re trained to analyze and discuss your athletic insurance needs, offer strategies for claims review and problem solving, and work with you to initiate or improve risk-management techniques. To best serve the unique requirements of each of our accounts, we employ our combined experience in athletic-related insurance, professional skills, and knowledge of this niche market, as well as the expertise of our selected insurance carriers and partners. Because we’re not obliged to one specific carrier or insurance company, we negotiate with the market to secure the highest-quality plans and most competitive rates for our clients.
A Track Record of Performance
Our flexible plans are designed for any and all athletic programs and campuses—from small colleges to large universities. Our resources include a broad range of insurers, as well as experienced consultants who can offer expert guidance in making the most appropriate and cost-effective decisions for your institution. More than 400 colleges and universities nationwide, as well as many top collegiate associations, rely on our expertise in the specialized area of collegiate-sports coverage.
Our plan types comprise the following:
- Fully Insured Plan: designed for athletes, cheerleaders, student managers, and student trainers
- Aggregate Deductible Plan: an innovative product with a self-insured annual per distribution designed to assist schools in reducing their accident costs
- Primary Student Athletic Accident Plan: designed for student-athletes who do not have primary coverage and/or student-athletes whose primary coverage will not pay in certain areas
- “Gap” Insurance: covers the difference between medical maximum coverage of the basic sports plan and the level of deductible for the catastrophic sports plan
- Catastrophic Injury Plan: for injury costs that exceed either the dollar amount of period limits or other regular basic athletic coverage
We provide comprehensive basic accident medical coverage for intercollegiate athletics, club sports, camps, and clinics. Our basic athletic accident plan covers injuries sustained during regularly scheduled games and practices while participating as part of a covered collegiate team. Our plans also cover organized group travel directly to and from covered games.
Catastrophic coverage is available for injuries exceeding a specific deductible threshold within a specified period of time, as well as certain catastrophic injuries. Benefits include medical, dental, rehabilitative, custodial care, total and partial disability, ancillary illness and injury, and AD&D.
Collegiate Sports: Past, Present, and Future.
Our group has the longest continuous service involvement in student athletics insurance. Since 1996, we’ve been a corporate partner with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the endorsed athletic insurance services consultant for the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA).
In January 2005, two of the best resources for collegiate athletics accident insurance joined forces—and “NACDA Insurance/NIRSA Insurance” in Salt Lake City became part of our team. This venture enabled us to continue the long tradition of corporate partnership and service to members of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), begun in 1969, and to members of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), implemented in 1989. It also brought us into partnership with the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA). Continuing in this tradition, we’re now officially partnered with the NCAA, Mutual of Omaha and American Specialty to market and administer the NCAA Group Basic Accident Medical Program. We also provide quality collegiate sports insurance coverage for institutions that are not affiliated with a National athletics association.
